Just after the start of the Great Depression in 1929, chemist Harry A. Cole found himself living in miles of pine forest near Jackson, Mississippi. Mr. Cole long knew from practice that pine oil was a natural disinfectant and deodorizer, so he rolled up his sleeves to improve his family's fortune by creating Pine-Sol® Brand Cleaner.
The business began by supplying janitorial services that cleaned banks. But success doesn't often happen overnight and it would take a full 17 years before Pine-Sol® was sold outside of Mississippi. In 1990, The Clorox Company acquired Pine-Sol® and set about innovating the formula and extending the line, with scented products that offer the same time-honored benefit of real clean. In fact, the same power of Pine-Sol® that's been in families like yours for generations.
